Her story

Catriona is the Chief Legal & Transformation Officer at Domain Group.

Without mentioning your job title, how would you describe what it is you do now (whether at home, work, in the community, etc.)?

At work, in my legal capacity, I support the organisation to drive towards delivering on our corporate strategy whilst ensuring the company remains within the boundaries of what is legally required and permitted. At a Board level, I support with corporate governance to ensure we are meeting the standards of an ASX listed company and meeting the governance expectations of our shareholders. As an additional non-legal limb to my role, I support the company with project governance to ensure we are delivering projects within scope, on time and on budget.

At home, I am a Mum to twin 10 year olds and I aim to support them in all their endeavours and achievements. I am seeking to enable them to grow up to be independent thinkers and good humans.

In the community, I am an ultra marathon runner. I participate in run clubs and running races, I run with other Mums, support others to set running goals and encourage as many people as possible to get out in our national parks and trails to move their bodies in nature and in fresh air.

What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?

Work in progress.

What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?

Change at every level of society; from the subjects that are encouraged in our schools and the ways that girls are encouraged to think growing up, parental role modelling, mentoring, the distribution of family responsibilities at home, men taking parental leave, a change in the perception of the average law firm partner, judge or C-Suite Exec. Individually, I believe these things will create a trickle effect which will collectively result in a wave of change.

What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?

I was very academic and achievement driven. I wanted a career that would be interesting and would challenge me. To this day, I am still a big believer in continued learning and typically complete at least one structured learning course each year. I am still growing in my legal career which keeps me interested.
