Her story

Grace is a Lawyer at Bloomberg Incorporation Limited.

Without mentioning your job title, how would you describe what it is you do now (whether at home, work, in the community, etc.)?

My role involves leveraging my skills to navigate legal complexities and provide in-house support specific to the unique needs of Bloomberg Incorporation Limited, the property development and investment arm of a global Private Family Office. I operate within a dynamic and inclusive work environment, ensuring compliance and safeguarding various aspects of the organisation's operations and interests in a nuanced and personalised manner.  Beyond my professional capacity, I have dedicated over 15 years to volunteering as a Qualified Justice of the Peace (JP) in the community. Through this commitment, I strive to enhance access to administrative and judicial functions, promoting fairness and equity for all.

What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?

Collaboration, Empowerment, Respect.

What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?

Fostering diversity in the legal industry goes beyond ethnicity or gender - it’s about embracing and valuing different thoughts, experiences, and backgrounds. To cultivate diverse thinking, the legal field needs an open-minded stance, that actively seeks and embraces insights from other disciplines like psychology, technology, and sociology. This multi-disciplinary collaboration breaks down traditional barriers and shapes a legal environment that is capable of addressing and adapting to the complex challenges of our constantly evolving society.

What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?

As a child of refugee parents, I grew up experiencing firsthand the unfairness and bias prevalent in society. I entered the legal profession driven by a conviction that higher education and a thorough knowledge of the law will empower me to challenge disparities and advocate for fairness. I am also driven by a strong belief in doing what is right and empowering others through the sharing of knowledge.
