Her story

Jillian is a Principal Lawyer at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers.

Without mentioning your job title, how would you describe what it is you do now (whether at home, work, in the community, etc.)?

I lead an amazing team of lawyers and legal assistants, and we represent Queenslanders that have been injured through no fault of their own, fighting to obtain justice for them. Every day is different - I could be in court, seeing new clients, mentoring my team, performing business development, or focusing on the financial side of the business.

What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?

Inclusion, equity and harmony.

What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?

Intentional efforts to create systematic change, and a real commitment from everyone.

What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?

Ever since I was a child I’ve wanted to be a lawyer and fight against injustice. I’m fortunate to now be living that dream. Practising in this area of the law is incredibly rewarding as it allows me to make a real difference in the lives of everyday Australians.

Contribute to the rich tapestry of women in Australian law

This campaign is not just a reflection of the past; it's an invitation to join the celebration of women in law. We invite you to nominate other women within the legal industry to share their stories, anecdotes, and tributes. Together, let's honour their legacy and inspire future generations.
