Rachel is a Senior Associate and Regional Office Leader at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers.
At work, I lead a team dedicated to helping individuals injured through no fault of their own access timely rehabilitation and compensation.
At home, I am inspired by my supportive husband and two beautiful daughters, who motivate me to be the best version of myself.
What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?
Inclusion, Kindness and Equity.
What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?
I believe we've made significant progress in embracing diverse perspectives since I commenced my legal career 20 years ago. It’s particularly encouraging to see that many firms, such as Maurice Blackburn, implement equitable briefing policies and offer flexible work arrangements to support a healthier work-life balance.
Looking ahead, I feel that everyone has a part to play in enhancing diversity within the legal industry by educating themselves, being open minded, and speaking up when they notice injustices.
What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?
From a young age, I knew I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to help others and make a meaningful difference in their lives. I am fortunate to have parents who exemplify kindness and compassion, and watching them assist others throughout my childhood greatly inspired me. I have a strong commitment to fairness and justice, and I am grateful that my clients trust me to use my legal skills to improve their quality of life. There is nothing more rewarding than leaving someone in a better position than you found them.
